Hiking

Hiking is good for the heart
Hiking increases the heart rate to a moderate level which helps improve aerobic fitness and endurance. It can also assist with the markers related to cardiovascular health, ie lower hypertension, decrease bad cholesterol levels, and improve glucose tolerance
Hiking helps with weight loss
As all other exercises, hiking also helps with weight loss. And the more you hike, the quicker the weight loss will be.
Hiking can relieve insomnia and improve sleep
Hiking can stabilise mood and make one feel very relaxed. It also lowers anxiety, and depression by releasing endorphins. This will make one feel calm and automatically sleep better.
Hiking builds community
Joining a hiking group creates friendships, mainly because everyone is like minded. On the trails, no one’s an enemy of the other, everyone supports each other and this can offset feelings of doubt, worry, and fear.
Hiking can improve self esteem
You may not feel great whist hiking because it does get tiring, however you feel great afterwards, and feel accomplished. Hiking can make you feel stronger, more independent, and you will be able to overcome all hurdles that life throws at you.
Hiking allows us to unplug from technology
We are heavily relying on technology because it makes our lives easier, however it comes with consequences, like anxiety, unhealthy comparison, and all sorts of social media pressures. Turning off your phone and going for a hike is an opportunity to live in the present moment and disconnect from the pressures that we often feel when we are scrolling.
Hiking improves balance
The leg and core muscles are constantly used to provide stability and balance on uneven terrain. Over time, these muscles strengthen and improve balance. Also, the mind’s awareness increases and the brain becomes more aware and judges the obstacles (for example, how to walk on rocky terrain) even better, this improving balance.
